2/20/2024 update
“Developing a support network of fellow survivors through exchange of contact information like phone numbers or e-mails is an important tool in recovery. We can develop very fulfilling relationships with other survivors as supportive recovery partners, step study co-sponsors or sponsors.
However, despite these benefits of outreach, there are safety issues that may arise. We encourage all members to use discernment when giving out their personal information, such as a telephone number or email. Safety is of upmost importance as we begin or continue our process of recovering from childhood sexual abuse.
We are all in control of our own safety. If you are feeling unsafe with individual communication, outside of CHPL meetings it is completely acceptable to end the conversation or relationship at any time. Our program teaches us that we can make choices. Feeling unsafe with any SIA fellow member is sometimes encountered on the road of recovery. This is a situation that requires action and boundary setting. It can provide an opportunity to learn new skills as we grow and heal. We are all in varying stages of healing. Being responsible for our own safety empowers us.”
